Review: Wings of Glass - Gina Holmes - March 2013

One of my favourite Christian reads is those that fall into the ECF pile. Those that push the boundaries that in the past would have been seen as taboo for a Christian novel. I enjoyed Gina Holmes's novel Dry as Rain , so when I saw that she had written Wings of Glass - I just knew that I had to read it and I was certainly in for a bumpy ride. Wings of Glass takes us into the life of Penny who in the present state is writing a letter to her son Manny aka Emmanuel. We read about how Penny is telling Manny about the type of person his father Trent was and so the story begins when Penny first met Trent when she was 17-18years old and Trent came to work for her parents on their farm. The story then travels to the fact that they got married and their relationship which includes tales of domestic abuse and mental abuse where of course we truly discover the saying "Sticks and Stones may hurt me but words will never break me" definitely never had to put up with it on a continual daily basis. The story then reaches a climatic point where tragedy occurs and Penny sees this maybe as her way out , but we discover that Trent is blinded from a work accident and we also read he has had a bit on the side. Soon Penny, is granted the opportunity to get a job and starts to finally meet people and make awesome friends. Can her friends help Penny unravel the "real truth" of what's been happening and help her to escape the hurtfulness or will it take another accident and a deadly scenario for her to see the light ?
Find out in this awesome and amazing look into domestic abuse with a Christianity spin.
