Review: Abandon - Underworld Series #1 - Meg Cabot -April 2011
Are you a fan of the Greek Mythology ? Read and loved P.C Cast's Goddess Summoning series or how about Rick Riordan;s Percy Jackson novels ? For myself, I have always been interested in Greek Mythology and especially love the books that recall the myths and legends of the Gods in contemporary world like the series I have just finished by Jennifer Estep - Mythos Academy. From the creator of many series , most popular though her Princess Diaries comes a new spin of the tale of Persephone and Hades. A tale that has been spun into a darkly reimagined novel.  In Abandon , we meet Pierce Oliveria , she is the only daughter of an Oil Tycoon and odd things have happened since she was a little girl. When she was seven years old , she met a man named John who brought back to life a bird and then she did not see him for years to come until one day when she was fifteen - she died and ended up in Purgatory and it was here that she came face to face with John. In the Underworld , Pierce manages to escape when she is given a necklace by John but what will follow the next few years of her life will be - pardon the pun "hellish" as people die, people get hurt and those who hold evil intentions about Pierce are harmed or even killed by John. Now seventeen , her mum has taken her back home to where it all started and Pierce will suddenly be drawn into a whole new world that she never thought would have existed ,a world where people known as "The Furies" want her dead and be in for a shock as Abandon reveals her grandmother's true intentions.
An interesting start to a series that could have the potential to be either great or average , I'm looking forward to Book #2 : Underworld.
