Hope Wescott , the middle of three sisters was the talk of Charles Towne , all about how she had landed herself the hottest and richest beau around Lord Falkland.  He promised on the return of his trip on the seas, he would marry her. So she decides to of course surprise him , but what she finds is most unexpected - Lord Falkland and his wife. Soon Hope finds herself locked as a prisoner and soon on display for sea merchants , tavern owners to buy her as a slave at a slave auction. What has her perfect life been reduced to ? While the bidding is occuring, in the audience is Nathaniel Mason - a merchant from Charles Towne and somebody who always fancied Hope and knew her from when he grew up there. A close bidding war erupts , and Nathaniel only by the addition of well additional items wins Hope and decides to take her back home safely. Along the journey , we learn more about Nathaniel and Hope and of course - what's a romance , without passion and tension being built up between the two. Just when things start to go good for them , Lord Falkland turns back up in the picture and has incriminating information that could destroy Nathaniel. Will Hope stand by Nathaniel or in order to save him , will she return with Lord Falkland ? Will Nathaniel and Hope get their happily ever after ? Does the Lady Falkland know about her husband's doings on the side ? And a cliffhanger ending reveals that Hope's younger sister Grace has been kidnapped and then the story stops and we are holding on to read Grace's story in Book #3 The Raven Saint.
