Banned/ Challenged Booklist for 2010

To Celebrate the release of the 2010 Banned Books/Challenged Booklist for 2010 : I have decided to go through the list and see how many of them I have read and list them for all you readers out there with a quick summary about What I thought of them.

Banned Books/Challenged Booklist : What I have read :

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings- Maya Angelou : This is one of the most amazing books I have read and the courage of the lead character shines out, It was also featured on Oprah;s Book Club and is one of those books that is on nearly everyone's African American Reading Lists

Twisted - Laurie Halse Anderson : This is one of my most favourite books of all time , I love Laurie's writing as she explores and touches issues that most people do not want to confront but in honest it is a reality. BTW It also has the most amazing coverart.

Running With Scissors - Augusten Burroughs - An amazing book and film about disabilities and mental illnesses.

House of Night Series - PC Cast - Vampire Teen Series ,Do I need to say anymore.

The Perks of being a Wallflower- Stephen Chbosky : This is another book that is on the recommended reading lists and is a teenage classic.

Anne Frank's Diary - Why oh Why , is this on the Banned/Challenged List , it;s not like everyone has not read it and they talk about every year through intermediate and college .

Mein Kampf - Adolf Hitler - So Hitler was evil, its always interesting to hear two sides of the story and Im guessing since Anne made the list of Banned/Challenged List it makes sense Hitler did also.

Lessons from a dead girl - Jo Knowles : An amazing book that discusses the theme of suicide in teens .

The Vampire Academy Series - Richelle Mead : Another Vampire series , I honestly don't need to say anymore .

Twilight Saga-Stephenie Meyer : Vampire/Werewolf series and Im a Twilight Fan. Anything fantasy with Vamps and Weres are my thing.

TTYL - Lauren Myracle : A fun IM series , that all girls must read .

Living Dead Girl -Elizabeth Scott : A bit of an odd read but still a great author.

The Glass Castle - Jeannette Walls : An excellent memoir that is highly recommended in bookslists

Gossip Girl Series - Cecily Von Ziegasar : An excellent series that depicts Rich Kids in Upper East Side , read the books , watched the TV Series

Comments

  1. I don't know why they are banning these books. There is nothing in there that the teens don't already know about.

  2. @Danielle , I def agree with you, Some of my favourite authors are those who aren't afraid to breach the norm like Ellen Hiokins, Melody Carlson (Christian Perspective), Laurie Halse Anderson. Just to name a few
